Compton Fibre Newsletter No.6

Dear neighbour,

Fibre's coming - by 23 January 2021

We have news about the availability of Full Fibre in Compton.
By 23 January 2021, exactly 10 months after we signed the contract, Openreach expect to tell service providers that they can start taking orders.

Openreach wrote:

As it stands, our delivery team are aiming to have this project completed by 23rd January, everything is on track for that date.
Delivery date means when we have completed the network build and have informed all the service providers that FTTP is available to order.

What does this mean for me?

  1. We hope that service providers will get their act together quickly and we'll be able to order full fibre soon after 23 January.
  2. If you are one of the 17 properties whose request for a residential or small business voucher was validated by DCMS, you have agreed to order the service as soon as it's available. All together the vouchers will cover the sum of almost £45,000 which we have to raise.

Which FTTP service providers can I choose?

And what will it cost?

When we started this project, apart from BT, there was a limited choice of ultrafast fibre suppliers. Several household names are now on the list of Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) providers.
Until the service is available, we don't know for sure which of these will offer full fibre support in our area or what the cost will be.
FTTP providers now include the companies shown below.
(click on a logo to view that company's broadband packages).
BT Full Fibre
Sky Ultrafast Broadband
Vodaone Broadband
Giganet
TalkTalk Ultra Fibre
Zen Ultrafast Broadband
Also offering FTTP but not (yet) on the list of FTTP providers:
EE Full Fibre Max
PlusNet and EE are both owned by BT, but neither is on the list of FTTP providers.
EE does offer an FTTP service but that may not include fixed line telephone calls.
PlusNet do not have an FTTP service, even though they ran an FTTP trial.

Finding BT prices

If you visit bt.com/broadband/full-fibre and enter your own address, it will only show prices for the services that you can currently get.
If you want to see BT's prices for FTTP, you need to enter the postcode of somewhere where it's already available.
The Openreach FAQ suggests that you use postcode MK18 2HY

What happens next?

This newsletter goes to everyone who was willing to apply for a DCMS voucher.
Openreach isn't allowed to claim more vouchers than it needs to cover costs.
Our thanks to everyone who applied, whether or not you were asked to validate a voucher.

But if anyone has moved away or closed their business, some of you who weren't part of the initial set of vouchers may be asked to substitute so that we don't fall below our target.

I'm checking all the details with Openreach and will probably write to everyone individually after Christmas, as well as sending another newsletter. We may also do a leaflet drop to inform all affected properties, as we did in early 2020.
About this newsletter: We set up this newsletter so that we can send you occasional updates about the project. You can always keep an eye on the project website at cfp.comptonshawford.uk.
